Description

Established in 1980, the Department was offering both PU and degree general courses till Honours was introduced in 1993. Keeping with the national pattern, semester system was introduced during the 2012 academic session.

Vision

The Department of History envisions creating a broad social, political and cultural awareness based on historical thinking and analysis; to make history a dialogue between people and societies for better understanding of the past and its relevance to the present; and convincingly set in place the importance of the discipline by integrating its multi-disciplinary facets.

Mission

To foster intellectual interest and curiosity of the rich cultural heritage of various communities around the world.

  1. To employ ways and means to impart knowledge that could establish connections between facts to understand the centrality of the subject. 
  2. To inculcate the ability to analyze and prioritize information to reconstruct history in its relevance.
  3. To explore new approaches and trends of history writings through academic activities and research both among the students and the faculty. 
  4. To develop transferable skills in students to prepare them for variety of career opportunities in future by providing realistic insights through the study of the past.
