The Research Committee and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Zunheboto Govt. College, Zunheboto organized a three-day Regional Workshop on “Adolescent and Youth Development in NE India: Opportunities, Challenges and Way Forward” sponsored by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Chennai, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India from 4th to 6th of March, 2021. The participants are drawn from 4th and 6th semester classes doing B.A. Arts course. They belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category of the Sema tribe of Zunheboto district of Nagaland. They are from the economically and educationally weaker sections of the tribal society most of whom are said to be the first generation graduates. The programme was conducted in both offline and online manner. The participants and Resource Persons attended in offline mode, while online mode was used so as to facilitate participation of Officials from RGNIYD, the sponsoring Institution, and no major network connection problem was faced during their participation from Chennai. The Resource Persons were drawn mostly from the academic field based on their intellectual professionalism to attract and enrich the knowledge level of the participants. They were perceived to be the right persons to handle the topic assigned to them. The Workshop had six sessions spread over three days. The registration for the participants was done between 9: 30 am and 10: 00 am on the 4th of March, 2021. It was attended by a total of 60 (15 Male and 45 Female) participants drawn from 4th and 6th semesters of the college on a first come first served basis, who showed keen interest in such youth development programme. The Inaugural Function of the Workshop was held between 10:00 am and 10:50 am with Dr. T. Chandrasekharan, HoD English and Programme Coordinator & Convener of the Research Committee chairing the session. Following the invocation prayer said by Ms. Newtoli K Yeptho, HoD, Department of History, Member Secretary of the programme & General Secretary of IQAC, Dr. K. Nishena Nekha, Principal of Zunheboto Govt. College, Zunheboto, delivered the welcome address. The session was joined by Dr. (Prof) Vasanthi Rajendran from the “Centre for Training, Orientation and Capacity Building” RGNIYD, Chennai representing the Director, RGNIYD, Sriperumbudur, and delivered the inaugural address. The Training Officer emphasized on the importance of organizing such workshops and appreciated the Organizing Committee on the relevance of the Workshop topic since it has direct implications on the overall development of the youth of the NE region, covering a wide range of areas concerning development of the youth. She mentioned that the youth of the NE region lag behind as they do not get adequate opportunities to use their talents in a competitive manner. However, organizing such programmes for the youth would draw out their latent potentialities for the development of the individuals and the society at large. Shri. Orenthung P Kikon, EAC representing the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto addressed the youth on behalf of the Special Guest. While showering gratitude upon RGNIYD for sponsoring such programmes in the entire state of Nagaland, he called upon the Sumi youth to overcome the challenges in life by effectively utilizing the opportunities provided to them from different corners. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. M. Pushparaj, HoD, Department of Economics & Co-coordinator of the programme. The day 1 of the Workshop was conducted on the 4th of March, 2021 under the theme, “Indian National Youth Policy and Sustainable Development Goals”. It began with the technical session 1 at 11:00 am and lasted till 12:30 pm. The speakers for the session were Dr. G. Phukato Sema, Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science& IQAC Coordinator, and Smt. Zipporah Sema, HoD, Department of Geography. The first speaker spoke on “Indian National Youth Policy with Special Reference to Nagaland” and identified education, employment skill development, entrepreneurship, promotion of social values, community engagement, and participation in politics and governance as the priority areas for youth development. The second speaker elaborated on “Sustainable Development Goals” and highlighted on the need for demographic development in harmony with the changing production potential of the ecosystem for sustainable development. The session was chaired by Smt. K. Kalito Chishi, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, and moderated by Smt. Tiamenla Imsong, Asst. Professor, Department of History. The technical session 2 of day 1 under the theme, “Health and Healthy Life” was conducted on the same day which began at 1:30 pm and lasted till 3:45 pm. The session had three speakers: Smt. Newtoli K Yeptho, HoD, Department of History and Member Secretary of the Programme & IQAC dwelt on “Preventive Care during the Global Pandemic”; Smt. Rosy Y Kinny, Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science highlighted on “Fitness and Nutrition”; and Dr. C. Periasamy, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics and Organizing Secretary handled the topic “Yoga for Health, Peace and Harmony”. The session was chaired by Mr. Kileto Chishi, Asst. Professor, Department of History, and moderated by Smt. Lipokjungla, Asst, Professor, Department of English. The technical session 3 of day 2 was conducted between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm under the theme, “Civic and Good Citizenship” on the 5th of March, 2021 in which Dr. Rajib Kumar Borah, Scientist “B” & Group Coordinator (Research) RFRI, Jorhat, Assam, and Dr. B. Venkata Rao, Asst. Professor, Department of Education, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus were the Resource Persons. They highlighted on the topics, “Human Rights and Social Justice”, and on “Value Education” respectively. Smt. K. Kalito Chishi, Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, Nagaland University presented her paper on “Women and Education Progress In Nagaland”. She was optimistic that there is a rapid growth in women’s education especially in technical and professional fields in the state. The session was chaired by Dr. M. Pushparaj, HoD, Department of Economics & Programme Co-coordinator, and moderated by Ms. Lovikali H Ayemi, Asst. Professor, Department of English. The technical session 4 of day 2 was conducted on the 5th of March, 2021 between 1:30 pm and 3:45 pm under the theme “Environmental Issues”. Shri. Kezhadi Leno, Asst. Professor, Department of Geography presented a paper on “Sustainable Development for Social Growth”. Ms. Kevilevonuo Monica Kezie-o, Asst. Professor, Department of Environmental Studies highlighted on “Global Warming and Climate Change”; and Shri. Kipfelie Thevo, Asst. Professor, Department of Geography dwelt on “Creating a Healthy and Clean-Green India”. The session was chaired by Shri. Tiasunep Ozukum, Asst. Professor, Department of Geography, and moderated by Ms. Hulika Zhimo, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics. The technical session 5 of day 3 was conducted on the 6th of March, 2021 between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm under the theme “Employability Skills”. Dr. Bupesh, Asst. Professor, Department of Forest Science, Nagaland University advised the youth on availability of various avenues for today’s youth while dwelling upon “Career Guidance”. He provided invaluable tips for the participants for decision making for a successful career. Dr. M. Giri Babu, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics, Nagaland University spoke on “Entrepreneurship Development and Today’s Youth” and stressed on the need for youth entrepreneurship for the improvement of the youth by making them skilled job creators for themselves and for the others. Dr. T. Chandrasekharan, HoD English & Programme Coordinator while focusing on “Leadership Skills and Positive Attitude” stressed on the qualities of an effective leader. Considering the participants as future leaders, he advised them to create an organizational culture to instill a sense of belongingness to the organization to promote loyalty and fullest commitment to the profession. The session was chaired by Smt. Rose Kithan, Asst. Professor, Department of Education, and moderated by Smt. Bolivi S Kiba, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics. The technical session 6 of day 3 was conducted on 6th of March, 2021 under the theme, “Inclusion and Social Justice” between 1:30 and 3:00 pm. Dr. J. Suresh Kumar, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics, St. Joseph University, Dimapur, spoke on “Economic Opportunities for Marginalized and Disadvantaged Youth”, while Smt. Lipokrena Jamir, Research Scholar, Department of Political Science, Nagaland University enlightened the participants on “Youth and Political Knowledge in Nagaland”. She stressed on the need for better educational policy in India for dissemination of political knowledge so as to develop the competence of youth in the society. The session was chaired by Shri. Imo Onen, Asst. Professor, Department of English, and moderated by Smt. Mutunelu Soho, Asst. Professor, Department of Education. The participants actively participated in the discussion process. Fifteen minutes were allotted for the discussion immediately after every speaker addressed the issues at hand. The participation in the discussion process enriched the desirable knowledge of the participants since all the queries were effectively handled by all Resource Persons. The participants willingly expressed their eagerness to attend similar programmes in future. They felt that organizing more youth development programmes for skill development, making traditional art and articrafts, and youth exchange programmes would further enrich their knowledge level and prepare them to face the future confidently. Finding the programme exceptionally beneficial especially during the ongoing global pandemic situation, the participants assured that the wide knowledge gained during the three days will be transmitted to their fellow youth in their villages so as to make them contribute their best in the process of nation building. The Valedictory Session was held on the 3rd day of the Workshop between 3: 00 pm and 3: 45 pm on the 6th of March 2021. The valedictory address was delivered by Dr. (Prof) Vasanthi Rajendran from the “Centre for Training, Orientation & Capacity Building”, RGNIYD, Chennai. Prof. Vasanthi Rajendran highlighted on the importance of organizing youth development programmes in the NE region so as to provide ample opportunities, and to make them competent enough to contribute in the process of nation building. She also interacted with the participants and took their feedback on the effectiveness of the Workshop, how beneficial it had been for them and also suggestions for organizing similar programmes in the future. The final report of the Workshop was presented by Dr. C. Periasamy, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics & Organizing Secretary. Certificates were given away to the participants by Dr. K. Nishena Nekha, Principal, Zunheboto Govt. College. Ms. Newtoli K Yeptho, HoD, Department of History & Member Secretary of the Programme Committee & IQAC chaired the valedictory session. The Workshop ended with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. T. Chandrasekharan, HoD Department of English & Programme Coordinator.
The fourth annual ICE (Information Communication Entertainment) 2019 was held from September 4- 7, 2019 at the college auditorium with the theme, 'Creativity: An attitude'. Event competitions were based on painting, creative art (best out of waste), extempore speech, elocution, debate, quiz, spelling bee, singing & dancing. The inaugural session of the fest started with a traditional programme where the students presented cultural songs, dance with their traditional attires. The fest culminated with an extravaganza evening with performances by bands from Cornerstone Higher Secondary School and Perfect Escape. Lika A Zhimo, V semester, was declared the overall winner while Tunavi G Swu and Nika H Khulu (both V semesters) were declared 1st and 2nd runners up.
A one-day National Seminar on Research Methodology in Social Sciences was organized on 26th July 2019 in the Zunheboto Govt. College, Zunheboto by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the Research Committee, and the College community. The Special Guest for the inaugural session was Shri. Peter Lichamo, Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, College Advisory Board. He congratulated the College for organizing the seminar and assured that the best contributions from the administration would be provided for the betterment of the College. The seminar was organized for the benefit of young researchers in India, especially, the North East and particularly Nagaland. The objectives of the seminar were to understand and clarify issues related to research methodology, to provide an in depth understanding of itsapplication and to provide hands-on experience in data processing and analysis. The seminar covered approaches to Social Science research, quantitative, qualitative and integrated approaches, classification of research design, statistical procedures/testing using SPSS software. There were two technical sessions and various topics and subtopics related to the theme of the seminar were presented by the resource persons drawn from across the country, particularly from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore;Bharathidasan University, Trichirappalli;Vinayaka Mission University, Salem; Periyar University, Salem; Pondicherry University, Puducherry; Gandhigram Rural University, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu; Viswabarathi, Shantiniketan, West Bengal; Mizoram University,Aizawl; ICFAI, Dimapur, Nagaland; Nagaland University,Lumami; SCS,Zunheboto; and also Professors from the College. The Keynote address on “Introduction and Report Writing of Thesis” for the first technical session was delivered by Dr. AthungoOvung, Asst. Professor, Department of Sociology; and that on “Data Analysis and Interpretation” was delivered by Dr. GiriBabu, Asst. Professor, Department of Economics both from Nagaland University. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. T. Chandrasekharan, HoD, Department of English & Coordinator, IQAC. Smt. LipokrenlaJamir, Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science, said the invocation prayers. The welcome note was delivered by Dr. K. NishenaNekha, Principal, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. M. Pushparaj, HoD, Department of Economics & Convener, Research Committee. During the valedictory session, final report of the seminar was presented by Dr. C. Periasamy, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics & Organizing Secretary, while valedictory address was delivered by Shri. H. JekughaSema, Vice Principal of the College. The seminar concluded with a valedictory session and distribution of certificates.
The NSS unit of the College participated in the second phase of Yuva Shakti Rally to spread the Poshan message of PM’s overarching scheme for Holistic Nourishment sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Govt. of Nagaland on 29th September 2018.
A Career Guidance Programme was organised in the College by 5 Assam Rifles, Zunheboto on 28th September 2018 to provide guidance to the young graduants to face the competitive world confidently.
The newly constructed College Gate was inaugurated by Smt. Kuholi Chishi, Director, Higher Education on 21st September 2018. The occasion was further marked by celebration of the 38th College Foundation Day and the 3rd Annual ICE Fest under the theme “Conquer from Within” held from 21st to 23rd September 2018.
The NSS Unit of the College participated in the Swachhata hi seva at Zunheboto town on 15th September 2018.
The PA to Hon’ble Minister, Higher and Technical Education along with his team entoured the college and held discussions with the Faculty on 13th September 2018.
The College Sports Week was held from 11th to 13th September 2018.
The Department of Economics organised an awareness programme on Competitive Examination by inviting the Guest Speaker, Mr. Puloketo Achumi, Geologist, on 6th September 2018.
The Zunheboto Govt. College Students’ Union (ZGCSU) election was held on 18th August 2018.
On the occasion of the Independence Day, the NSS Unit of the College extended a charity visit to the district jail.
Shri. Imna Temjen Along, Hon’ble Minister, Higher and Technical Education, along with his team, visited the College on 31st July 2018.
The 38th Freshers’ Social Meet was held on 28th June 2018.
The Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA) team visited the College on 22nd June and subsequently, the College was awarded with a ‘B’ Grade with 2.48 CGPA.
The NSS Unit observed the 4th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2018.
A Plantation and Cleanliness drive was jointly organised by the NSS Unit and the Department of Environment Science to mark the occasion of the World Environment Day on 5th June 2018.
